Deap One/Jamie McCready

Jamie McCready aka Deap One is the original TMD documentarian. Jamie initially started taking photos of graffiti with his mums disposable camera in 1997. One artist stood out in particular, Phat One. He worked out that Phat One was none other than Charles Williams who he knew from around the West Auckland neighbourhoods they both frequented. They had first met back in 95 or 96 while Charles was still attending Massey High School. Through Charles he started to become acquainted with many Auckland writers and began to document everyones work obsessively. It’s fortunate he did though as not many of the writers at the time were creating a solid record of their work. He taught himself how to use an 35mm SLR camera in 1998. Jamie’s archives are an incredible record of a unique period in the Auckland scene.

Jamie was both the staff photographer for Disrupt and Back2basics magazines, has directed several music videos for local hip hop acts and has consistently continued to hone his craft behind the camera. He currently shoots mostly in medium format and also focuses on drone photography.
